On Sunday, June 15th, 2025, the incumbent SLPP Chairman Kono
District Safea Moiwa, also known as Chairman Chende, was re-elected with a total of 81 votes, while his closest contender, Sal Mansaray, received 38 votes. There was jubilation all over the SLPP Kono District party headquarters in Koidu when the results were finally announced by the returning officer.
The election was free, fair, and transparent. Speaking to the press, Chairman Chende said, “The SLPP is a peaceful and democratic party, that was why when my opponent petitioned me during the first polls we followed due process, but finally the delegates gave me their overwhelming support to continue”.
He thanked those who voted for him and even those who did not vote for him as he said, “In SLPP we don’t have losers…we are all winners, that is why we are one Country one People”, he concluded.
It was under his chairmanship that, after sixteen years SLPP was able to get 80% of the district presidential votes; he got the local council, Koidu City Council, and 8 MPs for the party in Kono.
Under his leadership SLPP is constructing an ultra-modern Party office in Kono.
