Freetown, Sierra Leone โ€“ Superintendent Mohamed Sy Mansaray has been appointed as the new head of the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), marking a pivotal moment in a career dedicated to combating domestic violence, sexual offences, and safeguarding children.

Mansarayโ€™s promotion from Deputy Head to Head of the FSU is a testament to his extensive experience and steadfast commitment to protecting vulnerable groups. He succeeds Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mrs. Fatmata Dabor Kamara, whose visionary leadership and mentorship were instrumental in transforming the unit into a key pillar in the fight against gender-based violence.

Since joining the Sierra Leone Police in 2001, Superintendent Mansaray has held several strategic positions, including detective and regional coordinator. He has led critical initiatives such as the Major Incident Response Team and the Sexual Assault Syndicate, both designed to improve response times and enhance support for survivors.

Under his guidance, the FSU has strengthened partnerships with international organizations, including UNICEF, and played a vital role in shaping progressive policy frameworks to improve victim protection.

Superintendent Mansarayโ€™s appointment reaffirms the Sierra Leone Policeโ€™s commitment to addressing family and gender-based violence. His innovative, people-centred approach is poised to usher in a new era for the Family Support Unit.
