In a vibrant display of unity and camaraderie, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on Friday hosted a historic Forces Football Gala at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Academy at Kingtom. The event brought together personnel from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS), and the National Fire Force (NFF), aiming to foster stronger collaboration and interpersonal relationships across the nationโs security services.
The gala kicked off with an atmosphere of festivity and solidarity, drawing dignitaries and representatives from all participating forces. In his opening remarks, Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu welcomed the teams and lauded the unprecedented level of unity among the forces.
โThis is a big day not only for the police but for all the forces,โ IGP Sellu stated. โIn my 32 years of service, I have never witnessed this degree of cooperation. This is a sign of the togetherness we need to maintain peace and order in our beloved country.โ
He further promised a special reward for the SLP team if they secured the trophy.
Chief of Defence Staff of the RSLAF, Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of the event beyond competition.
โThis match is not a do-or-die affair. Itโs about easing stress and building stronger bonds among our security agencies,โ he noted. โThe primary objective is to interact and see ourselves as one united front in the service of Sierra Leone.โ
Representatives from the SLCS and NFF also praised the initiative, describing the gala as a milestone in inter-agency cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative security efforts and highlighted the value of such events in promoting morale, unity, and mutual respect among personnel.
In attendance was the National Security Coordinator (NSCoord) in the Office of National Security Coordination, Mr. Caulker, who suggested the inclusion of the ONS and the Central Intelligence and Security Unit in future editions of the gala.
โI am pleased to witness this historic gathering,โ Mr. Caulker said. โIt sends a strong message of loyalty, discipline, and effective collaboration to the people of Sierra Leone.โ
The on-field action saw RSLAF overpower the National Fire Force with a convincing 3-0 win in the first match, while the SLP edged past the Sierra Leone Correctional Service with a narrow 1-0 victory in the second match.
