As part of Sierra Leoneโ€™s nationwide drive to combat drug and substance abuse, the Special Joint Force under the National Taskforce for Drug and Substance Abuse has stepped up operations in key hotspots across the country.
In a strong show of leadership, Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu personally joined the field teams to assess progress, motivate personnel, and reaffirm the governmentโ€™s commitment to tackling illicit drugs. His presence underscores that the fight against substances like the deadly Kush remains a top national priority.
IGP Selluโ€™s direct involvement has multiple impacts: it boosts morale among frontline officers, demonstrates a coordinated and strategic response, and highlights that drug abuse affects all layers of Sierra Leonean society.
Addressing officers during the operation, IGP Sellu commended their courage, discipline, and dedication. He emphasized that law enforcement alone cannot win this battle and called for a collective effort involving communities, families, traditional and religious leaders, youth groups, and every concerned citizen.
โ€œThe success of this fight depends on our communitiesโ€ฆ We must all work together to share information, raise awareness, and protect our people from the devastating effects of these dangerous substances,โ€ he stated.
The visit also served as a major morale boost for task force teams engaged in raids, surveillance, and public awareness campaigns, reaffirming the governmentโ€™s commitment to public safety, health, and the well-being of every citizen.
The nationwide operations continue with renewed vigor as the Task force strengthens partnerships, intensifies intelligence gathering, and mobilizes communities to stand firm against drug trafficking and abuse across Sierra Leone.
