The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Hon. Gregory O.W. Coleman, is expected to arrive in Freetown on Monday, 17th November, 2025 with a high-powered delegation comprising of senior Liberian Police Officers.
Speaking to Tablet Newspaper, the peopleโs IGP William Fayia Sellu said, the SLP is all set to receive their Liberian counterpart in Sierra Leone safe and sound, and that their stay will be significantly fruitful in the interest of both countries and the Mano River Union basin.
IGP Sellu further said, the 4-day working visit by his colleagues from Liberia will further strengthen the existing good working relationship between the two forces, which will give them the opportunity to discuss a host of security issues such as transnational organised crime activities such as human trafficking, movement of light arms, intelligence shearing, drugs trafficking and many other issues.
However, this is the first time in the history of the Sierra Leone Police that they are hosting a foreign Inspector General of Police wherein they will exchange ideas on a lot of security issues including the SLP move to transform from โForce to Service,โ efficient service delivery to the people etc.
Hon. Gregory O.W. Coleman is the current Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, a position he assumed in February 2024. His professional background includes service as the Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCO) and as Director-General of the National Bureau of Concessions. He is known for a โpeople-first mentalityโ in his policing philosophy, focusing on community communication, officer accountability, and professionalism.
The key responsibility of the Inspector General (IGP) office in a Police Force is to provide strategic leadership and oversight to ensure the effective and ethical functioning of the entire organization. This includes setting the overall direction and priorities for the police force, formulating and implementing policies, and ensuring that all operational units are aligned with the law, organizational goals, and public expectations.
The IG office is responsible for maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability within the police force.
