The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has commenced the nationwide distribution of new Smart Goods and Services Tax (GST) machines to strengthen GST collection and improve the electronic recording of business transactions.
The rollout targets 10,000 GST-registered businesses and will complement the existing Electronic Cash Register system. The machines will support accurate record-keeping, improve compliance, enhance transparency and reduce revenue leakages.
Speaking during the distribution and sensitisation exercise, the Commissioner General, Mr. Abu Martin Kanneh, described the initiative as an important component of the Authorityโ€™s domestic revenue mobilisation drive.
โ€œThe Smart GST machines will benefit businesses and the Government by promoting accurate record-keeping, strengthening compliance and building customer confidence,โ€ he stated.
Mr. Kanneh also called on journalists and other media practitioners to support public awareness and encourage consumers to request GST receipts for taxable purchases.
NRA officials are engaging business operators nationwide and will continue to provide sensitisation and technical support throughout the rollout.
GST-registered businesses are encouraged to use the machines appropriately and issue valid GST receipts for all taxable transactions. Businesses must issue GST receipts, and consumers must request them.
