At this solemn and distinguished Congregation of Njala University, we have the singular honour to present an Honorary Award of Distinction to Mr. William Fayia Sellu, Inspector General of Police of the Republic of Sierra Leone, in recognition of his exemplary service to national security, public order, and institutional leadership within the Sierra Leone Police.

Mr. Sellu is a highly respected law enforcement professional whose career spans several decades of dedicated and meritorious service to the Republic of Sierra Leone. Through discipline, integrity, and professional excellence, he rose steadily through the ranks of the Sierra Leone Police, serving with distinction in a broad range of operational, command, and strategic leadership roles across the country. His career reflects an unwavering commitment to duty, the rule of law, and the protection of life and property.

Mr. Sellu holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Njala University College (NUC), University of Sierra Leone, and a various professional courses in security related studies, both local and international.

As Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sellu has provided steady, reform-oriented leadership at a critical juncture in Sierra Leone’s democratic consolidation and national development. Under his stewardship, the Sierra Leone Police has continued to strengthen professionalism, operational effectiveness, and public confidence. He has championed institutional reforms aimed at modernising policing systems, enhancing accountability and discipline, and improving service delivery in line with democratic norms and respect for human rights.

Mr. Sellu has placed strong emphasis on community-centred policing, recognising partnership with citizens as a cornerstone of sustainable peace and security. He has promoted constructive engagement between the police, communities, civil society, and traditional authorities, thereby fostering trust, conflict prevention, and social cohesion. His leadership has also prioritised inter-agency cooperation and collaboration with regional and international partners to address evolving and complex security challenges.

A firm advocate for capacity building and institutional development, Mr. Sellu has invested significantly in training, leadership development, and the welfare of police personnel. He has consistently underscored ethics, professionalism, and service as defining values of effective policing, thereby strengthening morale and institutional resilience within the Force.

Through his distinguished career, Mr. William Fayia Sellu has rendered exceptional service to the nation, contributing meaningfully to peace, stability, democratic governance, and the enabling environment for socioeconomic development.
