Freetown, 22nd September 2025 – More than 200 patients are set to benefit from free surgical operations at the Police Hospital at Kingtom, courtesy of a visiting team of Spanish doctors from the Surgeons in Action Foundation.
The delegation, led by Dr. Immaculada Gimenes Jimenes, paid a courtesy call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, at the Kingtom Senior Officers’ Mess.
Introducing the team, Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, commended the foundation for its consistent support. He highlighted that, just three years ago, the hospital was poorly equipped, but under the current IGP’s leadership it has undergone major transformation, with modern facilities now enabling complex surgeries that previously could only be performed elsewhere.
Welcoming the doctors, IGP Sellu expressed deep appreciation for their continued commitment to Sierra Leone. He emphasized that the benefits extend beyond police officers to the wider public.
“The Police Hospital has grown into a teaching hospital because of the improvements in infrastructure and the availability of top-notch surgical equipment,” the IGP noted. He further applauded the foundation for choosing the Police Hospital for the eighth time, adding: “Your efforts have significantly upgraded the hospital’s standard.”
Responding, Dr. Immaculada praised the warm hospitality they have consistently received in Sierra Leone, describing it as the best in the region. She assured the IGP that her team would deliver their utmost during the surgical campaign.
The engagement ended with journalists being taken on a conducted of the Police Hospital to inspect the state-of-the-art equipment such as the anesthesia machine donated by Surgeons in Action Foundation
