The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, has affirmed Sierra Leoneโs recognized role in promoting peace and security at both continental and global levels.
During the just-concluded United States edition of the Civic Day Series, Minister Kabba noted that Sierra Leoneโs increasing international recognition is a reflection of her strong diplomatic presence worldwide and adherence to good governance practices that align with international standards.
โSierra Leone is an important contributor to the promotion of global peace and security,โ the Minister declared, referencing the countryโs historic return to the United Nations Security Council for the 2024โ2025 tenure after five decades. โSierra Leone has presented itself as a peaceful voice, and that voice is recognised globally,โ he added.
The Minister further highlighted that in June of 2025, President Julius Maada Bio assumed the Chairmanship of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government at the 65th Ordinary Summit in Abuja, Nigeria. He described this as a significant milestone that reflects Sierra Leoneโs progress in democratic transition, security cooperation, and regional economic integration.
At the continental level, he cited Sierra Leoneโs election to the African Union Peace and Security Council for the 2024โ2026 term, underscoring the countryโs growing influence in advancing peace and security across Africa.
Minister Kabba, in his closing remarks, emphasized that the opening of new embassies in Sierra Leone, as well as the establishment of Sierra Leonean embassies abroad, are pointers demonstrating the countryโs strengthened international cooperation and expanding global partnerships
