His Excellency Luc Briard, the French Ambassador to Sierra Leone, paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, at the Police Headquarters on George Street.

The purpose of the meeting was to enhance collaboration between the French government and the leadership of Sierra Leone police. The IGP warmly welcomed Ambassador Briard and his delegation, underscoring the significance of bilateral relations in addressing security challenges and the necessity for cooperation between the two nations.

During their discussion, the IGP provided Ambassador Briard with an overview of the country’s current security situation, describing it as “relatively peaceful and secure.” He attributed this stability to effective collaboration among Sierra Leone’s security agencies and their partners within the Mano River Union. The IGP assured the ambassador that both citizens and visitors are safe, highlighting regular border security patrols conducted by police and security personnel as a crucial factor in maintaining national safety.

The IGP also briefed the ambassador on recent crime-related investigations, noting that crime levels in Sierra Leone are considerably lower compared to those in other countries in the region. He informed Ambassador Briard about the newly launched Police Strategic Development Plan—a comprehensive framework designed to enhance the efficiency of the Sierra Leone Police in fulfilling their core mandates of maintaining peace and security.

Ambassador Briard expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality he received and commended the police for their efforts in safeguarding the country. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) through an exchange of ideas and training to address emerging challenges.

The meeting concluded with both parties reiterating their dedication to deeper collaboration in tackling security issues.
