In line with Section 157(2) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, the Police Council has appointed AIG Sahr Yomba Senesi, the Director of Training, as the new Deputy Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police. This decision underscores the commitment to strengthening leadership within the SLP and enhancing its operational effectiveness.
Mr. Sahr Yomba Senesie joined the Sierra Leone Police in 1987 and was promoted to
Assistant Inspector General of Police in 2018. He holds a Masterโs degree in education with a specialization in Guidance, Counselling, and Sociology from Njala University, a Bachelor of Arts General Degree from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, a Teachers Certificate from the Milton Margai College of Education and Higher Technology (MMCET). Throughout his career, Mr. Senesie has completed several national and international police courses, including:
Detective Training Course
Change Management & Corporate Service Training Course
Strategic Business Planning and Development Course.
International Operational Planning Course.
Electoral Violence and Security Course.
African Road Safety and Leadership Training.
Mr. Senesie is an experienced police officer who has served in various roles both as an investigator and administrator. His previous assignments include:
Head of the Risk Unit at the Personnel, Training, and Welfare Department
Admin Officer at the Police Hospital
Head of Change Management at the Corporate Services Department during restructuring
Deputy Head of the Election Management Secretariat at the Operations Policy and Planning Department (OPPD) โ (2005-2007)
ADC to the Vice Presidentโs Office
Local Unit Commander in Pujehun
Head of the OPPD (2014-2018)
From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Senesie served as the Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety before being transferred to the North East region (Makeni) as Regional Police Commander. He has also held positions as Director of Gender and Community Affairs, Director of Professional Standards. He was the substantive Director of Training before he was appointed DIG.
Additionally, Mr. Senesie has international policing experience, having served as a Peacekeeper with UNIPSIL In Sierra Leone in 2014
