The tour kicked off in London at the Ministry of Information and Civic Educationโ€™s Civic Day Town-hall held at Westminster Chapel. Hosted by Information Minister Chernoh Bah, the event attracted a large gathering of Sierra Leonean professionals, investors, and community leaders based in the UK.
In his address to the diaspora, Vice President Juldeh Jalloh delivered an inspiring message focused on national development, economic transformation, and governance reforms. He urged attendees to go beyond simple financial remittances and actively invest in the future of Sierra Leone.
Key takeaways from his speech included:
Economic Growth: VP Jalloh highlighted the countryโ€™s improved export capabilities, including the international reach of locally manufactured goods such as cooking oil and specialty oils.
Healthcare Infrastructure: He pointed out significant reductions in maternal mortality rates and the introduction of advanced medical equipment like dialysis machines at Connaught Hospital.
Social Reform and Safety: The Vice President addressed the governmentโ€™s initiatives to enhance public safety, particularly the crackdown on the synthetic drug Kush, which involves both rehabilitation efforts and stringent law enforcement.
After concluding the engagements in London, Vice President Jalloh proceeded directly to Paris, marking a pivotal moment in the governmentโ€™s economic diplomacy.
In France, he was warmly welcomed by Sierra Leoneโ€™s newly appointed resident Ambassador to France, Dr. Mohamed Kanja Sesay. Ambassador Sesay took to his official Facebook account to express his delight in hosting VP Juldeh Jalloh, stating: โ€œIt was an honour to receive His Excellency the Vice President of Sierra Leone upon his arrival in Paris. During his visit, His Excellency will engage with high-level French officials and other key stakeholders to further the vital work of advancing Sierra Leoneโ€™s interests in Paris.โ€
This visit follows the recent historic inauguration of the Sierra Leone Embassy in Paris, aimed at fostering stronger trade and bilateral relationships under Ambassador Sesayโ€™s guidance. Both Jalloh and Sesay share a significant academic connection to the region, each possessing doctoral degrees from the University of Bordeaux.
While in Paris, the Vice President is poised to engage with senior French government officials, commercial enterprises, and development partners to highlight investment opportunities in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and sustainable agriculture.
