Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh recently presented a comprehensive overview of Sierra Leoneโ€™s significant governance changes over the past eight years. During a well-attended event in Westminster Hall as part of the London Civic Day Series, Dr. Jalloh discussed notable advancements in the energy, trade, and healthcare sectors.
The Vice President focused on major initiatives set to alleviate the nationโ€™s electricity issues by 2027. Key highlights included:
MCC Compact Funding: A $480 million grant secured through direct presidential direction.
Infrastructure Development: The Nant Power facility is currently under construction.
Renewable Energy Initiatives: A 40MW solar farm in Newton was recently commissioned by President Julius Maada Bio.
Nationwide electricity access has more than doubled, rising from 17% to 36%.
Dr. Jalloh acknowledged the efforts of the National Investment Board in enhancing trade, safeguarding investors, and stimulating local markets.
The sector has attracted investments exceeding $800 million.
There has been a noticeable increase in job creation, expansion of industrial capacity, and growth in domestic revenue.
President Bioโ€™s leadership has been lauded for maintaining commodity price stability amid global economic challenges.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session addressing vital issues related to health, economy, and land reforms. Dr. Jalloh specifically encouraged the Sierra Leonean diaspora to return with capital and expertise to support ongoing development efforts.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, with Information Minister Chernor Bah promising more interactions with global diaspora communities in the future.
