On January 30, 2026, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh inaugurated the advanced Freetown East Regional Police Headquarters. The development of the Ross Road facility marks the conclusion of a decade-long endeavour that initially began 11 years ago and faced hurdles including prolonged delays and resource stagnation. This impasse was resolved through the relentless efforts of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu, who prioritizes professionalization and the welfare of the force. The completion of the Freetown East hub was significantly expedited via a strategic public-private partnership.

According to recent updates from the Sierra Leone Police Media Team, the architectural advancements align closely with extensive operational reforms. The new police wings include specialized citizen interaction zones and are designed to be fully accessible for individuals with disabilities. The expanded facilities facilitate local tactical planning, effectively alleviating the administrative burden that has heavily affected the central George Street headquarters. This significant unveiling coincided with the introduction of the SLP’s new national uniforms and improved protective gear.

During his keynote address at the Ross Road inauguration, Vice President Juldeh Jalloh underscored that such structural enhancements are essential for building public trust. “This facility stands as a tangible representation of our commitment to modernizing law enforcement,” he remarked, encouraging officers to uphold discipline, integrity, and a strengthened focus on community-centered policing. As renovations progress at the George Street headquarters, the Sierra Leone Police is stepping away from its colonial past, making strides toward a highly secure, digitally integrated, and professional force equipped to tackle contemporary security challenges.

The initiative aims to replace outdated colonial-era designs with contemporary policing facilities.
