The Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police William Fayia Sellu has departed Freetown for Bo and Kenema to address major security concerns in those parts of the country.

The IGP who just returned from an official working visit to South Africa over the weekend was confronted by a gruesome armed robbery incident in Bo followed by another fatal robbery incident in Kenema.

Speaking To News Tablet Newspaper, IGP Fayia Sellu said, during his visit to Bo he would have security briefings with members of the security sector and map the way forward to combat armed robbery in Bo.

He added that, while in Kenema he would address members of the Catholic church for the death of Rev. Amadu and would also get a detailed security briefing from the security forces.

The Sierra Leone Police in collaboration with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has commenced a joint security patrol in Bo and Kenema following the recent surge in armed robbery incidents.

The IGP confirmed that, the patrol is aimed at restoring public confidence, deterring criminal activities, and ensuring the safety of residents and businesses across Bo and Kenema.

The regular patrols will also include major crime-prone areas, particularly at night, when most of the reported incidents occur.

The security agencies are calling on residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with security forces by providing timely information that will aid in the fight against crime.

However, a senior citizen confirmed to this press that the recent release of prisoners by the Judiciary on the grounds that they are decongesting the prison could be responsible for the armed robbery in that part of the country. He confirmed that most of the criminals that were sent to prison are now back in the streets again.
