Freetown, 5 August 2025 โ€“ The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu, who currently serves as Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), has pledged to revitalise the operations of all WAPCCO sub-committees relevant to policing across the region. The move aims to foster stronger collaboration and enhance regional policing standards.

As part of this renewed commitment, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr Sahr Yomba Senesi, has departed Sierra Leone for Abuja, Nigeria, to represent the IGP at the Annual Police Focal Point Meeting, taking place on 6โ€“7 August 2025.

The meeting will focus on the development of a comprehensive Police Roster for Peace Support Operations (PSOs) within the ECOWAS region. The initiative seeks to establish a structured, transparent, and competency-based system aligned with regional standards, international best practices, and the priorities of host countries.

Key objectives of the roster include the creation of a standardised pool of mission-ready, vetted, trained, and deployable police officers from all ECOWAS member states. This will enable a timely and coordinated regional response to emerging security challenges.

Additionally, the meeting will explore mechanisms to bolster operational readiness within national police institutions, positioning the police roster as a cornerstone of West Africaโ€™s security architecture.

DIGP Senesi is exigppected to deliver a keynote address during the opening ceremony. His participation will further elevate the profile of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on the international stage, reflecting its growing capacity to support ECOWAS-led peace operations and reinforcing professionalism, interoperability, and solidarity across the region.
