𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐭 𝐒𝐋𝐏 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥

The Surgeon in Action Foundation, a Spanish-based medical organization, has significantly bolstered healthcare services at the Sierra Leone Police Hospital through a series of free surgical operations and the donation of advanced medical equipment.

The partnership, launched under the leadership of Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, aims to improve medical support for police officers and their families, as well as the wider community. ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, has been instrumental in expanding healthcare access to underserved divisions, including Bonthe, Lungi, Kono, and Kailahun.

Recently, the foundation donated surgical equipment valued at over seventy thousand US dollars to upgrade the hospital’s medical capabilities. As part of this initiative, 199 patients—comprising police personnel, their relatives, and community members—benefited from free surgeries.

The procedures performed ranged from hernia repairs (143 cases) to lipomas (19), thyroidectomies (27), orchidectomies (1), goitre removal (1), hernioplasty (1), and cystectomy (1). The medical team expressed their commitment to the development of Sierra Leone’s healthcare system and appreciated the warm reception from the police management.

In addition to immediate medical support, the foundation announced plans to offer a full scholarship to a hospital staff member for advanced training in a specialized medical field, underscoring their dedication to sustainable healthcare improvements in the country.
