On Saturday, May 10th, 2025, Afrikonet Sierra Leone, an online marketing app, was officially launched at its Head office on No. 2 Saadatu Drive, Hamilton, off Peninsular Road, Freetown.
The goal of Afrikonet is to connect buyers and sellers across Sierra Leone, who deal in assorted goods such as Electronics, Fashion, Groceries, Beauty Products, Building Materials, and more.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion said, as a Nation, ” we are now proud of having a leading online marketing company”, which is reliable, affordable, and easy to operate. He said they are here to stay, as their products are original, and have safe delivery, as you will receive exactly what you ordered.
Sierra Leoneans no longer need to go for other international companies like Alibaba, Amazon, and the like, as Afrikonet SL is here as a nationwide company, which is expected to go international pretty soon.
Afrikonet SL products can be purchased via Afrimoney, Orange money, Debit or Credit card, or cash payment.
Mr Widmark Valme, the President and Co-Founder, and Mr Alhaji Ahamd Kemokai, CEO and Co-Founder of Afrikonet SL, said It is with great pride and excitement that we officially launch Afrikonet, a home-grown online shopping platform built for you, by you. At this pivotal moment in our nation’s digital journey, Afrikonet is here to streamline your daily life, making shopping easier, faster, and more reliable for youth and citizens across Sierra Leone.
The Story Behind Afrikonet.

Let me share an experience that will sound familiar to many of you.
A few years ago, my brother visited from Canada. His car broke down, and we needed a specific part to fix it. For two exhausting weeks, we drove through Freetown’s traffic—from Lumley to Wellington, from Goderich to Kissy—searching mechanic shops and auto parts dealers. Each day, we returned home frustrated, empty-handed, and drained from the heat and traffic.
That’s when it hit me: Why should finding a simple car part—or any product—be this difficult in our digital age? Why can’t we just click a button and have what we need delivered to us?
That frustrating experience became the spark for Afrikonet.

Welcome to Afrikonet—Where Shopping Made Easy!
In his keynote address, Mr Abdulai Jalloh said, It is both an honor and a personal joy to stand before you today as we celebrate the launch of Afrikonet.sl – Sierra Leone’s premier online shopping platform. Let me begin by thanking the founders for inviting me to share this historic moment.
Many of you may know me as a Diplomat, but today, I speak first as a brother and close friend to one of Afrikonet’s visionary founders. Mr. Alhaji Ahamd Kemokai, I’ve witnessed firsthand the late nights, the challenges, and the unshakable determination that brought us here. This isn’t just a platform – it’s a labor of love for Sierra Leone.
A Story of Necessity & Innovation
Few years ago, my friend called me in frustration after spending days searching Freetown for car parts. “Jalloh,” he said, “this is ridiculous. Why can’t we order what we need with a click and have it delivered like in other countries?”
That conversation birthed Afrikonet. But what excites me most isn’t just the idea – it’s the Sierra Leonean ingenuity behind it. This team studied our unique challenges:
Traffic that turns errands into ordeals
Sellers limited by geography
Buyers are unsure where to find quality goods
Then they built solutions for us, by us (Proudly by the young Sierra Leoneans):

Why AfriKonet Matters
As someone who imports goods, I’ve seen how hard our SMEs work to compete. Afrikonet flips the script:
A market woman in Waterloo can now sell to Makeni without traveling
A student in Kenema can order textbooks without begging relatives abroad
A mechanic can find parts without dismantling half the city
This is economic empowerment in action.
A Challenge & Commitment
To the business community here: Let’s own this platform. List your products. Be the reason a mother finds baby formula at midnight or a fisherman replaces his net before the season starts.
To government partners: Support this digital shift. Imagine a Sierra Leone where every district connects commerce through Afrikonet.
To the media: Tell these stories. When a trader doubles her income or a family avoids a 5-hour market trip – that’s news worth sharing all over the world.
My friends, I don’t just endorse Afrikonet because of friendship. I champion it because it works. I have used similar platforms abroad.
That’s the future we’re unlocking today in Sierra Leone.
To the founders: Your persistence inspires us all. To everyone here: Let’s make this our success.
Download the app. List your goods. Shop smarter. Sierra Leone deserves this.
