On Friday, February 21, 2025, Mr. Saa Kpulun, the Chairman of the Independent Police Complaint Board (IPCB), visited Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu at Police Headquarters on George Street in Freetown for strategic discussions. During the meeting, IGP Sellu congratulated Mr. Kpulun on his recent appointment and extended his best wishes for success in his new role.
The IGP emphasized the Sierra Leone Police’s (SLP) commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism among its personnel, stating that any incidents of misconduct or breaches of regulations would be met with both criminal and disciplinary action. “Every abuse of power will face appropriate sanctions,” IGP Sellu asserted, underscoring the importance of maintaining a positive image for the SLP.
He reiterated that discipline is essential to the SLP and highlighted the well-structured organization of the six police administrative regions, each supported by regional coordinators from the Complaint Discipline and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID). These coordinators are responsible for providing regular updates regarding the conduct of police officers.
During the meeting, IGP Sellu expressed institutional respect for the IPCB, which was established by an act of Parliament, and assured Mr. Kpulun that he looks forward to fostering a supportive relationship with the board. He underscored the significant strides made to reform the SLP in line with international best practices, including reducing firearm use during public order operations to avoid casualties.
“I am fully committed to effective support and collaboration at all times, and I look forward to inviting you to our Executive Management Board meeting to strengthen our ties,” IGP Sellu stated.
In response, Chairman Kpulun thanked the IGP for his dedication to maintaining peace and security, as well as for his initiatives aimed at transforming the SLP. He expressed confidence in their potential to develop a productive working relationship, backed by the support of the IPCB’s provincial staff.
Mr. Kpulun emphasized the significance of the courtesy visit, asserting its importance in fostering mutual respect between the two institutions.
