The ECOWAS Commission is hosting a High-Level Governmental Expertsโ€™ Validation Meeting from 16 to 17 July 2025 in Abuja to endorse the new Training Policy for Peace Support Operations. The initiative aims to transform the ECOWAS Standby Force into a mission-ready mechanism capable of rapid, coordinated responses to security challen

ges in the region.

The two-day meeting brings together experts from Member States, ECOWAS technical directorates, and key partners including the European Union, BMZ, GIZ, Expertise France, and AECID. The policy outlines a unified framework for training military, police, and civilian components, grounded in human rights, gender inclusion, and conflict prevention.

Anchored in ECOWAS Vision 2050, the initiative reinforces the Commissionโ€™s commitment to building a peaceful, secure, and resilient West Africa. It also reflects the growing alignment between regional priorities and international cooperation in peace and security.
