The vibrant commissioning event was attended by senior government officials, police leadership, traditional leaders, security representatives, development partners, and community members. Attendees hailed the new division as a crucial advancement for peace, law enforcement, and community policing initiatives in Masingbi and nearby areas.

In her opening remarks, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, the Regional Police Commander for the North East Region, highlighted that the creation of the Masingbi Divisional Headquarters is a vital component of the SLP’s strategic plan to enhance operational capacity and bring policing services closer to citizens. She highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration between the police and local communities to build trust and improve public safety throughout the region.

The Honourable Member of Parliament for the constituency delivered encouraging remarks, emphasizing the role of the new division in facilitating better access to policing services, promoting community partnerships, and ensuring coordinated security efforts in Masingbi and its surroundings. She commended the infrastructural developments spearheaded by Inspector-General of Police Mr. William Fayia Sellu and urged residents to engage with the police for better service delivery.

The Local Unit Commander of Masingbi Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Foday Sesay, reflected on how the establishment of the division aligns with IGP Fayia Sellu’s vision to increase police presence in key towns throughout Sierra Leone. He assured the community of his commitment to using his extensive experience to provide effective, professional, and community-focused policing services.

On behalf of traditional leaders, Paramount Chief Bai Kurr Kanagbarosanka III expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone and the SLP for establishing the divisional headquarters in Masingbi. He characterized this development as historic, emphasizing that the town has long been deserving of such a facility due to its strategic significance.

The Paramount Chief praised IGP Fayia Sellu for his visionary leadership and extended thanks to His Excellency the President, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and all stakeholders involved in making this project a reality. He noted that Masingbi serves as a critical gateway connecting multiple districts and chiefdoms, making the establishment of the division both timely and essential for the community.

The Resident Minister for the North East Region, Mr. Ibrahim Jalloh, hailed the establishment of the new division as a significant step towards enhancing community-focused policing. He emphasized the Government’s dedication to ensuring that policing services are more accessible to local populations. Mr. Jalloh encouraged officers in the division to embody professionalism, approachability, and a strong dedication to public service, highlighting the importance of building trust and cooperation between the police and communities for maintaining peace and effectively preventing crime.

In his address, Inspector-General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, noted that the opening of the Masingbi Divisional Headquarters is a key component of the Sierra Leone Police’s ongoing efforts to decentralize policing and boost operational efficiency across the country. He pointed out that Masingbi’s advantageous location and expanding population warranted the establishment of a divisional headquarters, which would enhance command, coordination, and rapid response capabilities.

The Inspector-General indicated that this decision followed thorough consultations with local authorities and community stakeholders. He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the Government, development partners, and the local community, which played a crucial role in bringing the project to fruition. He urged officers assigned to the new division to uphold exemplary standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline while fostering strong ties with the community. Additionally, he called on residents to collaborate with the police by sharing timely and credible information regarding criminal activities, stressing that successful policing relies on robust community partnerships.

In a keynote address on behalf of the Government, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. David Fortune, congratulated the Inspector-General and the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police on the successful launch of the new division. He reaffirmed the Government’s resolve to fortify national security institutions to safeguard the well-being of all citizens. The Deputy Minister pointed out that the Ministry of Internal Affairs oversees vital national security agencies such as the Sierra Leone Police, the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, and the Immigration Department that collectively strive to protect lives and property. He concluded by stating that the Masingbi Divisional Headquarters would significantly enhance police visibility, strengthen community engagement, and foster greater collaboration with the public.
