Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio has successfully wrapped up a significant diplomatic visit to Accra, where he engaged in important bilateral discussions with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama. This visit was spurred by the severe floods that impacted various regions of Ghana on June 29. During this time, President Bio conveyed an official message of empathy from the Sierra Leonean government and its citizens.
The dialogue between the two West African leaders centered on:
Disaster management protocols
Climate change adaptation strategies
Enhancing regional cooperation within ECOWAS
โ€œSierra Leone stands firmly with Ghana during this challenging period,โ€ President Bio remarked at a joint press briefing. โ€œWe share in the grief of those affected in hard-hit areas such as Adabraka and Odawna. The extensive harm to local economies and vital infrastructure is truly regrettable.โ€
Continuing to express his support, President Bio reiterated these feelings on his official Facebook page. He emphasized that his meeting with President Mahama was meant to personally extend heartfelt sympathies to their Ghanaian brothers and sisters. He characterized the destruction caused by the heavy rains as heartbreaking and reinforced Sierra Leoneโ€™s commitment as a reliable ally to Ghana in times of adversity.
In other news, key infrastructure developments were publicised in anticipation of the 69th ECOWAS Summit, with particular attention on the newly constructed Lungi Congress Center and its associated presidential villas.
Additionally, as part of the summit preparations, the Government of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China has officially donated fifteen presidential vehicles. These vehicles arrived just in time for the high-level regional event and will be utilized to transport visiting heads of state.
